Yeah, now they expect us to be qualified, speak multiple languages, have an excellent curriculum for just a decent pay check.

Ya que he trabajado desde los catorce, Personalmente no tengo nada encontra de ello!

/I kid, I know the US is different...

When I’m drunk I become a fluent french speaker to the surprise of my french friends... honestly Dutch and German are... (comment est que je peux dire?) similar.

That french is probably wrong but in my defense I’m not intoxicated.

I don’t know what to think about the US situation... I don’t know how it came to be that way, maybe it’s time for older folk to retire, lower the retirement age to 60 or 55 and bump taxes up a bit but... who knows.

Apparently according to fiscal conservatives the economy is naturally occuring and naturally stable and perfect without human intervention, lets call this theory “Intelligent design”.....

multiple languages?

does speaking English and Aussie count as two languages? :P

It depends on the region, if understanding Andalucian Spanish, Scottish English, and whatever the fuck chairos speak these days counts, then I guess Aussie english does too.

A friend of mine would always tell me “I speak Swiss German and Normal German”

No insult intended at all !

cant speak for the states as im in the netherlands.. over here its mostly a case of lotsa highly educated people looking for work and lots of entry level jobs going to teenagers who will work for a third of what i earn... if you’re not very educated and not very young... finding a job is a bitch...

(might get easier soon as the teenagers really really want the same wages us older gits get.... and they dont believe me when i say that would just mean all those entry level jobs would just go to us olds instead...... employers like an employee that has to make rent and feed a fam.... keeps us motivated)

Signs don’t work. There’s not enough room on them to explain why someone should employ her.

Employment in regional Australia is always a bit tricky. Especially long term employment. Now that I’m unemployed...I don’t expect a regular job to come by ever again. But I will again get paid for my skills in some way or another in the coming years...no doubt about it.

I just went through the interview process a couple of times. I was lucky enough to have a decent job while interviewing which makes the whole process less stressful, obviously. I made it even less stressful by working with recruiters and having pretty specific goals and requirements.

As far as the interviews themselves go, I was able to treat them more as a meet and greet and an information sharing exercise and less of a “please hire me because I will work really hard” exercise. I am fortunate to have a skill set that is sought after in an industry that is booming at the moment (pre-construction manager/estimator for a general contractor) so that didn’t hurt and my needs job starts in a week. I was able to work out a 30% base salary increase and bonuses. I was only able to do that being calm, prepared and willing to share ideas, means and methods and by displaying a willingness to learn new things.

What kind of work do you want to do and how much do you want to do it? Past experience? Skills? Etc? What does your resume look like?

Most of my colleagues got invited to work as paid interns into the second year of college, most of them also get a job in their field in the end...unless they study international relations... or poly sci

im a panelbeater/sheetmetal worker... currently employed as a welder mostly (but i can fill in on the presses/cnc cutters if need be)

and my resume thankfully shows plenty experience in this field so i tend to get the job despite flubbing the interview with nerves and generally lacking social skills

well, economies fluctuate, what matters is that countries have cash to overcome that in the shape of stimulus packages and unemployment aid. What I dislike about some brands of European socialism (typically further south than your postcode) is that they cut taxes and spend more money because of a fundamental misunderstanding of how the Euro works. Also unknowing the real solubility of their nations and the performance of the economy. Sure, my Spanish colleagues and nationals love to complain about austerity measures but they forget they pay relatively lax taxes to fuel corrupt politicians and very smooth typically toll free highways.

Well, those complaining can move here to Mexico, our top braket is 35%! And theoretically you could live on the national health service and public schooling. Otherwise next time they complain remind them they can leave! Mexico and South Korea have the least intrusive tax legislation of the OECD, and these countries have never been in financial problems!

top bracket here is 52% i think

im currently at 36%.... it pays for all the good stuff... im ok with it (and i can claim a chunk of it back once a year wich makes for a nice bonus)

03/21/2018 at 07:26

52%? That’s not unreasonable....

Wecan tax exempt almost everything... Top tier is for those making 250,000 pesos a month or more.

first 20 grand taxed at 36% the next 30 at 40% and once you’re over 70 grand everythings 52%

but as said.. you can get a good chunk of it back

well.... under 8 grand you pay no tax.....so 4:p

but yep... at least as far as i know... but im not very up to speed with the system.... i just pay up and claim back

I have never seen that at any time in my life.

The strong economy claim is pretty bogus when jobs are still quite hard to come by.

I wish I could weld better than I can - it’s a much more interesting skill than what I do at my job. I used to work for a marine construction company which was an amazingly satisfying job. Start with nothing and with a couple of guys and some tools we actually created stuff that was useful and will be around for a while. Plus there was hands-on problem solving and having to figure out how to get things done without a plan. I also got to goof around on boats all day and that was hard to beat. Hopefully you get the same kind of satisfaction, I imagine you do. Not a lot of people can say that they actually make something. I traded that satisfaction for money and there are times when I am not sure I made the right choice.

That’s not that much in freedom bucks... Where I live, that’s perhaps upper middle class for a single filer if you’re not old enough to have long ago purchased property that has kept your housing costs low...

Yes, I think it’s too low... We need a system with twice as many brackets thay goes as high as 70%

Mostly I want the rich (14% includes me!) To be taxed in a manner that would help us solve the growing inequality.

Most of my jobs have been walk ons. However I’ve never made more than 25,000/year and I HATE online applications. One job I got purely because I was wearing a suit when I stopped into to get the application. The owner was so impressed he told me to come I that afternoon. A shocking number of people walk in wearing basically pajamas, or worse their mom comes in to get an application for them!

The jo ive had for 4 years now started because when I turned in my application I spoke directly to the manager shock her and and said thank you. I wasn’t qualified for the position I applied for but she remembered me the next time something opened up.

It’s not just Scottish English. We’ve had agency ‘helpers’ in work the last few nights, we’ve had brummies, yam yams, sand dancers, geordies, mackams and smoggies.

Me being a Cummerlan, can’t understand a ruddy thing they are saying.

some days i get the satisfaction when we get custom orders to build the rest of the time its mass producing stuff wich is mostly spotwelding and machining

most days im perfectly happy there and the pays pretty good

(also the company actually offers people like me a career if they fit in well.... so thats what im aiming for... working 3 month contracts for now.. but if i can get it i intend to stay for the next 30 years.... that kind of stability sounds pretty damned awesome to me)
